Of one thing I am certain, the body
is not the measure of healing - peace is themeasure.
Mahatma
Gandhi (attributed)
An eye for an eye makes the whole
world blind.
Peace is not an absence of war, it is a virtue,
a state of mind, a disposition for benevolence, confidence, justice.
Peace has to be created, in order
to be maintained. It is the product of Faith, Strength,Energy, Will,
Sympathy, Justice, Imagination, and the triumph of principle. It will
never be achieved by passivity and quietism.
Until he extends his circle of compassion to include
all living things, man will not himself find peace.

This is the true nature of home --
it is the place of Peace; the shelter, not only from injury, but from
all terror, doubt and division.
With malice toward none, with charity for all, ...let
us strive on to finish the work we are in, ...to do all which ma achieve
and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all
nations.
In Italy for thirty years under the
Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed but they produced
Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland,

peace and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock.
Peacemaker,
founder of the Iroquois Confederacy, (ca. 1000 AD)

O Chiefs, nor of your own generation. Think ofcontinuing generations
of our families, think of our grandchildren and of those yet unborn,
whose faces are coming from beneath the ground.
The more you sweat in peace, the
less you bleed in war.
The hope of a secure and livable world lies with
disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and
brotherhood.
"Strength to Love"
Nonviolence is the answer to the crucial political
and moral questions of our time: the need for man to overcome oppression
and violence without resorting to oppression and violence. Man must
evolve for all human conflict a method which rejects revenge,
aggression and retaliation. The foundation of such a method is love.
Stockholm, Sweden, December 11, 1964.
Peace is not merely a distant goal
that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.
