Peace is Possible Parade & Workshops
Every summer, Children’s Peace Theatre hosts a series of 14 Peace is Possible Workshops at a local school. Over 250 children from area day camps work with professional artists on specific themes focussing on global issues and prepare for the parade by creating banners, songs and dances. The annual Peace is Possible Parade has become a beloved tradition as business owners and residents enjoy the sounds of children chanting and singing as they march from Shoppers World on the Danforth through the neighbourhood to the home of Children’s Peace Theatre on Dawes Road where they are accompanied by musicians, giant puppets and other guests on route. After a picnic lunch in the Massey Taylor Park, the children enjoy a special performance of Peace Camp’s final theatrical production. We are taking registrations for Workshops now! Please call Karen at 416.752.1550 to register your day camp. __________________________________________________________________________________________ "Very positive and empowering… It was so exciting for them to walk along the side of the street carrying their banners and shouting ‘peace is possible’ – they loved it when cars would honk for them." Leader from Balmy Beach community centre describing the children's experience "Very affirming for our kids, who come from a variety of cultural backgrounds… they loved having the opportunity to show their friends how to write or say ‘peace’ in their own language and to feel a real sense of community as they marched with other kids from the area" Main Street Community Centre group leader __________________________________________________________________________________________ For more information on the Peace is Possible Parade & Workshops, please contact Alixa at 416.752.1550 or e-mail alixa@childrenspeacetheatre.org |
