FREEDOM SCHOOL

A Little About Ourselves

FREEDOMSCHOOL – Toronto is a youth and parent driven initiative that intervenes to fight against anti-Black racism in the school system and to creative educational alternatives for Black children.  We run a three week program for children aged four to twelve at Children's Peace Theatre.

We run a Saturday school program, curriculum fairs, students conference, and training programs to engage youth in Black liberatory education. We also do research on Black liberatory education and participate in campaigns to create systemic change.

Project Coordinator:  LeRoi Newbold is a parent, educator, steering committee member of #BlackLivesMatter- Toronto, and inaugural staff/teacher at Canada’s first public Africentric School.  With 10 years experience of experience in Africentric curriculum development and delivery, early childhood education and youth engagement, he will be drawing on his ability to engage students in pedagogy on Black liberation.
